It is natural to experience periods of sadness & low mood, and this often passes in its own time. However for some people, these periods persist, are intense and impact on other aspects of their life.
The symptoms of depression include a depressed mood, and a loss of pleasure or interest in previously enjoyed activities, that lasts for at least two weeks. In addition to this, a range of other symptoms may be present:
- Changes in weight or appetite (when not dieting)
- Lack of concentration
- Sleeping difficulties
- Pervasive feelings of guilt or worthlessness
- Agitated or slowed physical movements
- Fatigue & loss of energy
